Mapleleaf viburnum: (Viburnum acerifolium) is a versatile native shrub celebrated for its stunning maple-like leaves and beautiful seasonal attributes. Thriving in woodland settings, this shade-tolerant plant features clusters of small white flowers that bloom in late spring, followed by berry-like drupes that ripen to a deep blue-black, providing essential food for birds. In autumn, its foliage transforms into a spectacular display of colors, ranging from pale yellow to bright oranges, reds, and purples. Growing to a height of 3–6 feet, with a spread of 2–4 feet, it adapts well to a variety of soil types and is somewhat drought-tolerant once established. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Mapleleaf viburnum supports local ecosystems by attracting pollinators, serving as a host plant for the Spring Azure butterfly, and offering valuable shelter for wildlife.
