Ceanothus americanus, also known as New Jersey Tea, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan. New Jersey Tea reaches 3 feet tall and flowers from June to August with stubby bursts of the most delicate white flowers imaginable. It prefers partial shade to full sun, medium to dry soil and will grow in loam or sand. It is able to fix nitrogen, making it a good choice for poor soil.
New Jersey Tea is a great pollinator plant and good chrysalis support for butterfly gardens. It's a popular host plant for butterflies and moths and also supplies hummingbirds with nectar.
