Phlox pilosa, Prairie Phlox, is a perennial wildflower native to south and central Michigan.

It reaches up to 2 feet tall and flowers from May to July with a pink to pale purple blossom. Early bloom time is beneficial to our early-rising native bees and butterflies, as well as migrating hummingbirds. Prairie Phlox spreads by rhizomes to form pretty clumps of color. This is a great full-sun groundcover or front border plant.

This plant prefers full sun and medium moisture, with well-drained loamy soil, but will tolerate part sun or dry, sandy soil (especially with mulch) or clay. Deer resistant, fragrant, and attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Good for rock gardens, cottage gardens, naturualized meadows, and butterfly gardens.
