- Appearance: This shrub typically grows to a height of 6 to 9 feet and spreads to a similar width. Its opposite leaves are oval-shaped and dark green in color, turning shades of red or purple in the fall. The most distinctive feature is its bright red stems, which provide visual interest in the winter landscape.
- Flowers and Fruit: Red Osier Dogwood produces small, flat clusters of white flowers in late spring to early summer. These are followed by white to bluish-white berries attractive to birds and other wildlife.
- Habitat and Growing Conditions: Red Osier Dogwood is commonly found in wetland areas, streams, and moist forested areas. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of soil types, including clay. It thrives in full sun to partial shade.
