- Summer Cascade wisteria is not considered invasive like other types of wisteria. Summer Cascade is cold and hardy. Summer Cascade is colder and more complex than other Wister cultivars. Discovered by Betty Matthews in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and given to the University of Minnesota, introduced in partnership with Bailey Nurseries, Inc.
